Experimental Sculpture with Plaster and Clay

This course focuses on experimenting, playing, and exploring the vast possibilities of form in sculpture. We will mainly work with plaster and clay—two ideal materials provided by nature. We’ll also incorporate pigments, stones, and plant fibers. We joyfully allow nature and chance to play a role in our search for form. Failed attempts will be recycled or returned to nature.

To begin, we will introduce various methods of playful creation. Among others, we’ll explore the multi-colored stucco marble technique and apply it ourselves in a simplified form. As the week progresses, we’ll work according to our own preferences. The “results” can be standalone works in plaster, clay, or fired clay, or they can serve as templates for stone sculptures or bronze casts.
Anyone who wants to start with their own project is welcome to do so as they wish. The emphasis, however, is primarily on experimentation. For classical figurative modeling with the plaster build-up technique, the "Plaster – Figurative" course is more suitable.

This course is convenient for beginners and advanced students!

Languages: German, English, Italian, French and Swahili.
